Artistic Interventions in Conflict Zones: Healing Trauma and Building Peace Through Creative Expression
Abstract
This paper examines the transformative potential of artistic interventions in conflict zones, focusing on their role in healing trauma and fostering peace through creative expression. Drawing on case studies from diverse conflict-affected regions, the study explores how art serves as a powerful tool for individuals and communities to process their experiences, reclaim agency, and envision alternative futures. It investigates the therapeutic benefits of art therapy, community murals, theater workshops, and other creative initiatives in addressing the psychological wounds of war and violence. Additionally, the paper analyzes the ways in which artistic interventions contribute to reconciliation, social cohesion, and conflict resolution processes by providing platforms for dialogue, empathy, and understanding among conflicting parties. Through an interdisciplinary lens, it examines the intersection of art, psychology, and peacebuilding, highlighting the unique contributions of artists, activists, and cultural organizations in promoting healing and resilience in post-conflict societies. The findings underscore the importance of integrating artistic approaches into holistic peacebuilding strategies to address the complex emotional, social, and cultural dimensions of conflict.
