Abstract

Ethical considerations in educational technology (EdTech) have gained paramount importance, particularly in addressing student privacy and data security concerns. This paper explores the significance of ethical considerations in EdTech, emphasizing the need for safeguarding student privacy and ensuring data security. It delves into the principles and key components of ethical EdTech practices, including data anonymization, informed consent, and compliance with regulations such as the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The discussion includes the benefits of ethical EdTech practices, such as building trust with stakeholders, protecting sensitive information, and fostering a safe learning environment. Moreover, the paper addresses the challenges and considerations in implementing ethical EdTech, including the need for transparency, responsible data handling, and continuous monitoring. Through a review of empirical studies and case examples, the study highlights the positive outcomes associated with ethical EdTech practices, including enhanced student trust, reduced risks, and improved data governance. The conclusion offers recommendations for EdTech developers, educators, and institutions interested in upholding ethical standards, emphasizing the importance of a student-centered approach and a commitment to safeguarding privacy and data security.
