The Role of Arts Education in Promoting Social Emotional Learning: Fostering Resilience, Empathy, and Well-Being
Abstract
This paper explores the role of arts education in promoting social emotional learning (SEL), with a focus on fostering resilience, empathy, and well-being among students. Drawing upon literature from education, psychology, and arts advocacy, the paper examines how arts-based approaches can enhance students' social and emotional competencies, including self-awareness, self-regulation, and interpersonal skills. It discusses various artistic mediums and practices, such as visual arts, theater, and music, in providing avenues for self-expression, emotional exploration, and interpersonal connection. Through case studies and examples, the paper demonstrates the potential of arts education to cultivate empathy and compassion, build resilience in the face of adversity, and promote overall psychological well-being.
