English Translation of Words with Chinese Characteristics from Adaptation Theory: A Case Study of China’s Beidou Navigation Satellite System in the New Era

Abstract
This paper takes the political text China’s Beidou Navigation System in the New Era as the research object. Based on Jef Verschueren’s Adaptation Theory, it explores the English translation of words with Chinese characteristics in the text and analyzes how the translation is performed for the linguistic contextual or the communicative contextual adaptation. The translation methods adopted by translators in each case are also summarized and discussed in detail. This study is made with the expectation of providing some ideas for the future related researches.
